ELAINE HUMPHREYS COOK is principal harpist with the Lexington Philharmonic Orchestra and auxiliary harpist with the Louisville Orchestra. She has played with the Cincinnati Symphony, Indianapolis Symphony, Evansville Philharmonic, Columbus Symphony, Berkeley Orchestra, and the Aspen Festival Orchestra. As acting principal harpist with the Louisville Orchestra for three years, she performed at Carnegie Hall and Kennedy Center.
Elaine teaches at the University of Kentucky in Lexington, Centre College in Danville. She holds a Bachelor of Music Degree from the Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music and a Master of Music Degree from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. While pursuing a Bachelor Degree and a Master Degree in harp her performance was mostly classical repertoire, she has gone on to add to the mix, a vast repertoire of popular songs ranging from old English, Stephen Foster, Movie soundtracks, musicals, classic songs from the 1940 (Cole Porter, Jerome Kern, Hoagy Carmichael) as well as pops through the 70s, and on up to current songs.
Her family has made its way in music for generations: composers, music critics, symphony members of orchestras in Louisville, Detroit and Cincinnati. Her great-grandfather was principal cellist in a Vienna based orchestra directed by Edward Strauss.
Elaine Cook has performed in Kentucky, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Michigan, New York, Maine, Georgia, Missouri, Colorado, California, China, and has been awarded Lexington Community Arts Development Grants. Elaine as been featured regularly at many Country Clubs, Spindletop Hall, retirement centers, and is very popular for when it comes to weddings held at the Marriott, Radisson, Hyatt, Bell House, Bodley-Bullock House, Hunt Morgan House, Bell House, Carrick House, Palomar Centre and many churches in Central Kentucky.
